Leopardess
Leopards are known to be solitary and elusive animals, but they do occasionally breed and raise cubs. Its not uncommon to see a leopard with her cubson a termite mound, as this provides a good vantage point for the mother to scan the surrounding area for potential prey. Red lechwes are a type of antelope that inhabit flood plains and grassland in the Okavango delta. They are an important prey species for many predators, including leopards. leopards are skilled hunters and are known to take down prey much larger than themselves, so a red lechwe would be a suitable target for a leopard. When hunting, leopards typically stalk their prey and pounce on them from a close range. They use their powerful jaws and sharp claws to deliver a lethal bite to the neck of their prey which quickly immobilizes and kills itOnce the prey is dead, the leopard will drag it to a safe location to eat. Overall, seeing a leopard with her cubs on a termite mound while she scans the floodplains for potential prey is a rare and fascinating sight, a reminder of the beauty and diversity of the natural.
